Korean Language Classes (Spring/Summer 2010)

Also-Known-As, Inc. is excited to announce that we will be offering Korean language classes for beginners starting this Spring!

Are you one of the many people registered for the IKAA Gathering 2010 from the tri-state area? Are you going to Korea any time soon? Are you simply interested in learning Korean or have you been toying with the idea?

Well, this will be a wonderful opportunity for you.

We are extremely fortunate that Eun-Seong Choi recently moved to New York City from Seoul, Korea. She not only has over a decade of teaching experience, but also well over a decade of experience working with the adult Korean adoptee community in Seoul, AND has studied teaching Korean language and culture to foreigners, receiving certification to do so in 2007.

About Eun-Seong Choi (the teacher)

Eun-Seong Choi is a Korean artist who received both her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Hong-ik University, home of the most prestigious art program in Korea. She has 12 years of experience teaching art to children and high school students.

Eun-Seong has also played an integral role in the experiences of countless adult Korean adoptees by volunteering to translate for them as they searched for their biological families and then, if a reunion occurred, by facilitating communication between the adoptee and their birth family. She has been involved with the Korean adoptee community in Korea for over 10 years!

Eun-Seong was impressed by the large number of Korean adoptees who returned to Korea as adults, interested in learning more about their culture and heritage (including the Korean language), and realized the importance adult adoptees may place on reviving this connection. She began taking classes at Hong-ik University for teaching Korean to foreigners and in 2007 became certified to teach Korean language and culture.

Since moving to New York City in December 2009, Eun-Seong has started teaching private Korean lessons with both adult adoptees and adoptive families, and would like to continue teaching Korean to the adoptee community in a small classroom setting.

Class Schedule
April 27 - July 13, 2010 (12 weeks)
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Classes will meet once a week on Tuesdays for 2 hours per class.

Class Structure and Information
Classes will cover reading, writing, listening, conversation and grammar in a fun and dynamic environment. Korean language teaching materials will include practice worksheets, grammar guides, vocabulary lists, and clips from contemporary Korean media.

In order to faciliate an interactive learning environment, there will need to be a minimum of 5 students. The class will also be capped at 12 students, so that it remains small enough for personalized attention.

Class Location
All classes will take place at University Settlement in Manhattan.

University Settlement (at the Houston Street Center)
273 Bowery (at the corner of Bowery and Houston)
New York, NY 10002
